THE PROJECT
SOLENE was developed as a luxury swim and beachwear concept focused on refined silhouettes, considered fit and elevated resort-to-beach versatility
The collection explores contemporary swimwear designed to combine sculptural lines with comfort, support and confident wearability,
extending into complementary beachwear pieces that create a cohesive wardrobe
The development focused on translating each design into technically viable swimwear, considering stretch performance, body contouring,
support, lining, construction, coverage, movement and resistance to repeated exposure to water, salt and sun

PORTUGAL
THE BRIEF
The objective was to create a luxury swim and beachwear collection that felt:
Sculptural but wearable | Refined but effortless | Feminine but contemporary
Supportive but comfortable | Premium but functional | Timeless but distinctive
The collection was developed around swimwear designed to flatter and support the body while maintaining a refined, elevated aesthetic
Each style needed to perform beyond the visual concept, with stretch recovery, body contouring, lining, support,
coverage, construction and resistance to water, salt, chlorine and sun considered throughout development
The accompanying beachwear pieces were designed to extend the collection beyond swim,
creating versatile looks that could transition naturally from beach and poolside to relaxed resort settings
OUR APPROACH
-
Each SOLENE style was developed as a swim and beachwear product, balancing body contouring, support, comfort and visual refinement.
+ Silhouette & Proportion: Developed sculptural shapes around the natural body while controlling coverage and visual balance.
+ Support: Defined bust, waist and body support requirements for each silhouette.
+ Functionality: Considered straps, ties, closures, adjustability and removable elements.
+ Wearability: Designed for movement, swimming, lounging and extended beachwear use.
+ Construction: Planned internal support, lining, elastic integration and clean finishing.
+ Production Feasibility: Developed each style around repeatable construction and commercially viable production methods.
-
Patterns were engineered specifically for stretch fabrics, body movement and close-to-body fit.
+ Swimwear Blocks: Developed fitted base blocks for different one-piece, bikini and beachwear silhouettes.
+ Stretch Allowance: Calculated negative ease according to fabric recovery and required compression.
+ Body Contouring: Engineered cup, bust, waist, hip and side shaping through panels, seams and darts where required.
+ Support Zones: Integrated pattern shaping for bust support, straps, underbust and key body areas.
+ Coverage: Controlled neckline, leg opening, back and side coverage through precise pattern geometry.
+ Grading: Developed size grading while maintaining stretch, proportions and intended fit across the range.
-
Materials were selected according to stretch performance, recovery, comfort and resistance to swimwear conditions.
+ Swim Fabrics: Evaluated technical polyamide, recycled polyamide and elastane blends according to required performance.
+ Stretch & Recovery: Tested two-way/four-way stretch, recovery and shape retention.
+ Lining: Selected suitable swim lining for opacity, support and comfort.
+ Elastication: Developed compatible elastics for leg openings, underbust and waist areas.
+ Colour & Finish: Controlled colour, surface appearance and material response when wet.
+ Durability: Considered resistance to chlorine, salt water, UV exposure, sunscreen and repeated washing.
-
Samples were developed to validate fit, support, coverage and performance before final approval.
+ Prototype Development: Produced first samples using representative fabrics and construction methods.
+ Fit Testing: Checked bust, underbust, waist, hip, rise, leg opening and strap positioning.
+ Support Testing: Evaluated bust stability, compression and garment retention during movement.
+ Coverage Review: Assessed front, back, side and neckline coverage in static and active positions.
+ Movement Testing: Tested swimming, sitting, bending and general body movement.
+ Refinement: Adjusted patterns, elastic tension, straps and construction before technical approval.
-
Approved styles were translated into detailed production specifications.
+ Technical Flats: Documented front, back and construction views.
+ Measurements & Tolerances: Defined POMs, stretch-related tolerances and grading specifications.
+ Construction Details: Specified seam types, elastic insertion, lining, binding and finishing.
+ BOM: Documented main fabric, lining, elastics, hardware, labels and components.
+ Pattern Files: Prepared final digital patterns and production layouts.
+ Production Specifications: Consolidated fit, construction, materials and finishing requirements.
-
Sourcing focused on performance fabrics and components suitable for premium swimwear production.
+ Fabric Sourcing: Selected technical swim fabrics according to composition, weight, stretch and recovery.
+ Lining & Elastics: Sourced compatible lining, underbust elastic, leg elastic and binding.
+ Hardware: Selected corrosion-resistant clasps, sliders, rings and other components.
+ Colour Matching: Controlled fabric, lining and component colours across the collection.
+ Supplier Evaluation: Assessed quality, MOQ, lead times and production capability.
+ Costing: Evaluated material consumption and components against target production quantities.
-
SOLENE was manufactured using controlled swimwear construction methods designed for stretch, durability and clean finishing.
+ Cutting: Controlled stretch direction, grain, panel alignment and fabric consumption.
+ Assembly: Constructed garments according to approved technical specifications.
+ Stretch Seams: Applied suitable overlock, coverstitch or specialised seam construction.
+ Elastic Integration: Controlled tension and placement through openings and support areas.
+ Lining & Finishing: Integrated lining, bindings, hems and clean internal finishes.
+ Production Consistency: Controlled measurements, tension, construction and appearance throughout production.
THE RESULT
The SOLENE concept demonstrates a complete luxury swim and beachwear development pathway:
